Kaia Arua passes away at 33; ICC pays condolences to Papua New Guinea all-rounder

Papua New Guinea Women cricketer Kaia Arua passed away at the age of 33. International Cricket Council (ICC) paid tributes to Kaia Arua on X. Arua was an all-rounder who played many international games for the Papua New Guinea team.
Kaia Arua was a left-arm spinner and a right-handed batter. She was a bowling all-rounder. In her international career, Kaia Arua played 47 T20I games for Papua New Guinea. She played for the team for 6 years.

Kaia Arua made her international debut in 2018 against Bangladesh Women
Kaia Arua made her international debut for Papua New Guinea Women in July 2018 with a T20I match against Bangladesh Women. She played her last game earlier this year in January, facing Fiji Women in a T20I game.
Featuring 47 games for PNG, Kaia Arua hunted 59 wickets at a superb average of 10.20. The left-arm spinner also registered a wonderful economy of 4.20. She also clinched 3 four-wicket hauls and 2 five-wicket hauls in her career. Her best bowling show was 5/7 against Japan Women.

With the bat, Kaia Arua mustered 341 runs in 30 innings at an average of 22.73. Her top knock was unbeaten 43 runs in a clash against Cook Islands Women. Notably, the PNG all-rounder remained not out in 15 innings out of 30.
In January 2024, Arua played in the Pacific Cup for PNG Women. She gave a wonderful performance in the tournament, hunting 8 wickets across 4 games against different teams. She also clinched a 4-wicket haul vs Samoa Women in one match.

Papua New Guinea is part of the ICC T20I World Cup 2024
Meanwhile, Papua New Guinea is part of the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024. PNG men's team is part of Group C in the tournament. Other teams in their pool are New Zealand, West Indies, Afghanistan, and Uganda. PNG will start its journey in the tournament with a clash against West Indies on Sunday, June 2.
Later, they will face Uganda on June 5, Afghanistan on June 13, and New Zealand on June 17. PNG's first two games will be played at Providence Stadium in Guyana. Their last two matches will take place at Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad.
