He has already been associated with the franchise from the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL), as it is owned by the same owner, Dr.Sanjiv Goenka, who owns the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL, where the Kiwi batter serves as the Strategic Advisor.
Kane Williamson joins Manchester Super Giants
Now, for the Manchester Super Giants, Kane Williamson has been appointed as the new men’s team batting coach ahead of the upcoming season of the Hundred. This is a massive role for the Kiwi legend as he takes up a big role soon after calling out on his career. Kane has experience working with the franchise, having been the advisor in the IPL.
Williamson serves as the Strategic Advisor and works closely with head coach Justin Langer to develop the team's cricket strategy, giving tactical masterclass and calm leadership to the support staff. So he will work with Langer, who is the head coach of the Men's team for the Super Giants in the Hundred.
Has Kane Williamson worked in a coaching role?
Kane was brought in by franchise owner Dr. Sanjiv Goenka to guide players and assist the franchise with strategy and match planning. He signed as an active international cricketer who opted out of New Zealand's core contract to pursue franchise chances.
Given his tactical background, he has also been charged with overseeing important team assessments. This symbolises his shift to a coaching role in the competition, as he steps away from his former on-field obligations as captain of the London Spirit in the 2025 season.
Kane Williamson to work with Aiden Markram
Kane Williamson and Aiden Markram both play for Durban's Super Giants in the SA20 league. They were teammates and opened the batting for the Super Giants. Both players formerly played for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), where Markram succeeded Williamson as captain in 2023.
Aiden Markram has been appointed as the captain for the Hundred franchise. The South Africa National Cricket Team skipper has vast experience leading in international and franchise cricket as well. He will get some help from Jos Buttler, who also has some massive experience leading sides and is familiar with the conditions in England.
The team will formally begin its new era on Thursday, July 23, 2026, with an away encounter against the London Spirit at Lord's, before returning to Emirates Old Trafford for their first home game against the Birmingham Phoenix on Sunday, July 26.
