New Zealand National Cricket Team batter Kane Williamson went past India National Cricket Team batter Virat Kohli in the most number of runs in Test cricket. This was the first time in nearly six years that the Kiwi batter went past the Indian great's tally in the longest format of the game.
New Zealand batter Kane Williamson achieved the feat in the ongoing second Test against the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team. The last game of the two-match Test series between the teams is underway at the Galle International Cricket Stadium in Galle.
Kane Williamson is having a hard time in the ongoing Sri Lanka tour. He didn't live up to the expectations, as he failed in both games for the New Zealand National Cricket Team. In the first game of the series, he slammed 55 runs in the first innings of the first game and then followed it up with 30 runs in a knock-in in the second innings.
In the ongoing second Test, Williamson couldn't get going at all. The premier batter scored 7 runs off 53 balls in the first innings. The batter looked in decent touch in the second innings but couldn't make a bigger impact with the bat for his team as Sri Lanka bowlers were all over his team.
Williamson scored 46 runs off 58 balls with the help of fours boundaries. He played some gorgeous strokes, and it was expected that he would save the game for his team, but that wasn't the case, as he was removed by Nishan Peris just ahead of his half-century in the second innings.
But during his stay on the crease, he went past Virat Kohli in most Test runs. Kane Williamson now has 8881 runs from the 102 games that he played in the longest format of the game. The batter has scored runs at an average of 54.48 and also has slammed 32 tons and 35 fifties in his career so far.
On the other hand, Virat Kohli has 8871 runs from the 114 games that he played for the India National Cricket Team. The right-hander has scored runs at an average of 48.74 and also has hit 29 Test tons and 30 half-centuries in his career so far in the longest format of the game.
