Stokes is a good all-rounder, but... - Kapil Dev
Ben Stokes has been in the form of his life and has been making remarkable contributions for his team in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025.
Stokes has scored 304 runs at an excellent average of 43.42, including an amazing century in the Manchester Test, and is the leading wicket-taker in the ongoing five-match Test between India and England with 16 scalps under his belt.
On the other hand, Ravindra Jadeja has bagged 13 wickets and scored 347 runs at an exceptional average of 86.75 for the India National Cricket Team.
As both the all-rounders have been performing exceptionally well, there has been a heated debate among the fans on who is actually the best. According to the legendary Kapil Dev, Ben Stokes is a good all-rounder, but Jadeja is far superior to him.
“I don’t want to compare. Stokes is a good all-rounder, but I still feel Jadeja is ahead. He is performing far better," Kapil, who is the president of PGTI, was quoted by PTI on the sidelines of the PGTI Schedule announcement for the second half of 2025.
Give him time - Kapil Dev on Shubman Gill
Kapil Dev also urged the fans to give some time to the newly-appointed India Test captain Shubman Gill, who is under pressure after India's defeat in the Lord's Test and poor performance in the ongoing Manchester Test.
The legendary all-rounder said that Gill is still learning things and has a young team, which will make mistakes.
“Give him time. This is his first series, he will commit mistakes and there will be many positives over the period of time, he will learn. There is no problem if he is learning. There will be mistakes, but he is learning from his mistakes that is very important," Kapil said.
“This is a young team, they are getting the opportunity to play and in the coming days these players will win. It is just a new team. Any new team in the world takes time to adjust. Gill is a new captain, and he will learn a lot and I think this series will be a learning step."
What do you expect from a debutant, that he should take 10 wickets? - Kapil Dev
While talking about the Haryana pacer Anshul Kamboj, who made his debut in Manchester Test and returned with figures of 18-1-89 -1, Kapil Dev said that the youngster needs to be backed as he has got the ability to succeed at the international level.
“What do you expect from a debutant, that he should take 10 wickets? You have to assess his potential. If he’s good enough, he will bounce back. Everyone is nervous when playing their first game. The result may not be ideal, but I believe the ability is there, and that’s more important," he added.
