Legendary India allrounder Kapil Dev reckons that practicing is the only way to improve for the Indian team ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Australia. India recently lost to New Zealand in a home Test series 0-3.

It was a collective failure for the batters and the bowlers as they failed to live up to the high expectations. While the bowlers were good at times, the batters hardly put up any fight against a resilient New Zealand bowling attack.

Star batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were unable to cross the 100-run mark across the three Tests. Both the senior batters struggled against New Zealand's spinners on turning tracks.

While speaking to CricketNext, Kapil Dev asked the Indian team to practice more and more ahead of the five-match Test series against Australia. Kapil Dev claimed that the players will have to practice more in order to get out of a rough patch.

“Go back to the basics. Practice and practice and practice. If you say I will improve by sitting in the room, then it is not going to happen. If you are going through a rough time, just practice more. The more you practice, the better it will be for you," Kapil Dev said.

Kapil Dev is still regarded as ther greatest allrounder to have played for India so far. The star allrounder was known for his hard-hitting ability and the skills with the new ball.

India will not play any practice match before the first Test of the series in Perth. The team was scheduled to play a practice match with India A earlier but changed the plalater to focus more on training.

Currently, India A is playing in Australia and some of the players in the main squad are also part of the team. KL Rahul, Dhruv Jurel, Prasidh Krishna, and Abhimanyu Easwaran are some of those players who are playing the second unofficial Test between India A and Australia A.

Form of Indian batters

Apart from Rishabh Pant, Indian batting line-up is not in good form with various batters struggling for runs. Seniormost batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli had a poor Test season at home.

Rohit and Kohli also did not participate in domestic cricket due to the workload management The decision has been criticized from all over the country as the experts claim that they need to improve their game against spin bowling.

The recent defeat to New Zealand has put India in a spot of danger for the qualification to the WTC final. It was a shocking defeat for a team that had been so dominating at home over the years. It was India's first Test series defeat at home in 12 years.
