Former India National Cricket Team player and the father of the legendary all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, Yograj Singh, has levelled shocking 'match-fixing' allegations against Kapil Dev.

Yograj Singh asked why the match-fixing case, involving the 1983 World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev, was shut down and not brought up for discussion.

What was the match-fixing scandal involving Kapil Dev?

In June 1997, former Indian cricketer Manoj Prabhakar publicly alleged that Kapil Dev, among others, had offered him money to underperform in matches during the 1994 Singer Cup in Colombo.

After the shocking allegations, the BCCI was forced to form a commission led by former Chief Justice Y. V. Chandrachud to investigate the matter.

The committee investigated the allegations made by Prabhakar and released the findings in April 2000. Prabhakar was slammed for waiting 3 to 6 years after the alleged incidents to make the matter public. Also, he failed to name the alleged briber and provided no supporting evidence, and his allegations were found factually inconsistent.

In 2000, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and BCCI’s anti-corruption officer, K. Madhavan, undertook further inquiries and submitted the report on 1 November 2000, which found no credible evidence linking Kapil Dev to any match-fixing or bribery. The legendary all-rounder was given a clean chit in the matter, and the case was shut down.

Ask all the journalists, where is the file of match fixing - Kapil Dev

In an interview with InsideSport, Yograj mentioned how Kapil, Mohammad Azharuddin, and others were involved in the match-fixing scandal and demanded that the case file be reopened. He said:

"Ask all the journalists, where is the file of match fixing lying in the Supreme Court shut down by the ... Do you know anything about it? Do you know anything about it? I am telling you, ask this question. Do you know who all were trapped in match fixing? First Kapil Dev's name came up, then Azharuddin's name came up, then a lot of people's names came up. Why did you close that file? Open it."

There are a lot of heads of the legends would roll - Yograj Singh

Yograj Singh further said that the file won't be reopened because a lot of legends’ heads would roll. The former Indian player also recalled how one of his friends, who was a journalist, was once threatened. He elaborated:

"No. Why? There are a lot of heads of the legends would roll. I have told you what is the truth and what is a lie. Why don't you do it? I have said it many times. We have Mr. Luthra. He is a journalist. He was my best friend. We used to talk a lot. He told me people came to break his house and set it on fire.

"I said, are you afraid of these things? You are afraid that they will say something to your family, they will burn your office. They have even turned it into a goon here. That's why people are scared."
