Tamil Nadu won the 2021–22 edition after defeating Karnataka in the championship match by a margin of four wickets. It is the most successful squad in the competition’s history.

Karn Sharma will captain the team:

Karn Sharma has been playing for Railways on the domestic circuit since 2007, but it wasn’t until the 2012–13 season that he really started to draw attention.

In three Ranji matches that season, he took 21 wickets at an average of 19.04 and won the BCCI award for Best Under-25 Cricketer. A highlight of his first-class career was an eight-wicket innings haul against the reigning champions Rajasthan.

Despite having few opportunities there, he led India A to victory in a tight chase with 39 off 16 at No. 9. Soon after, he received an India call-up, was selected for the limited-overs squad for the tour of England, and made his T20 international debut.

After consistently taking wickets against visiting teams for India A later in the year, he received his first Test call-up for the tour to Australia.
