The 33-year-old India National Cricket Team batsman Karun Nair has bluntly rejected his comparisons to the ODI skipper and modern-day great, Rohit Sharma.

Karun Nair said that he should not be compared to Rohit Sharma because the latter is a legend of the game, and he is just starting out in his international career.

Karun Nair failed in his India comeback

Nair staged his India comeback after eight years following his consistent performances in domestic cricket for Vidarbha. Karun Nair was a man on a mission as he showcased unbelievable batting performances across formats and caught the attention of selectors.

His domestic cricket masterclass didn't go unnoticed as he first earned an Indian Premier League (IPL) deal with the Delhi Capitals (DC) and then received his India recall for the England tour.

Nair, who is India's second triple centurion in Tests, began the England tour on an excellent note by smashing a brilliant 204 in a tour match against the England Lions in Canterbury.

But as the main series started, his struggles began, and he only managed to score 205 runs in 8 innings at an average of 25.62, and his mode of dismissals also came under scrutiny.

It will be unfair to be compared to the legend - Karun Nair

Other than his poor outings, Karun Nair came into the limelight for his looks. With the helmet on, Nair's body structure and batting stance looked somewhat similar to Rohit Sharma, with fans pointing out the similarities on social media platforms.

When asked about this in an interaction with Sports Yaari, Nair said that he feels nice being compared to a legend like Rohit Sharma, but felt that it was not the right thing to draw comparisons. He said:

"Everyone these days watches everything that goes around on social media, but you know that Rohit Sharma is a legend of the game, & I don't really know what to say, it's nice to see, but I would like to not compare myself with someone who is a legend of the game. It will be unfair to be compared to the legend, whereas I am just starting my career."

I was batting really well throughout the series - Nair

In another interaction with PTI, Karun Nair expressed his disappointment over not being able to convert his starts into big scores. He said:

“I was batting really well throughout the series and I was getting starts in most games. But I was just not able to convert it, which was frustrating for me more than anyone else. The one lesson I’ve reflected upon is making sure that I convert the start that I get. I’ve spoken to a lot of people about it, and I’m going to work on it very soon.”

Nair further said that he was proud to be a part of the Indian team that drew the series in England and credited head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Shubman Gill for creating a good environment.

“Not many teams have gone to England and levelled the series in five Tests. I’m really proud to be part of this amazing team,” he said.

“The best part was that the messaging was clear. We showed that we never give up, and the attitude was to always keep fighting. You could see that on the field,” he added
