Ambati Rayudu has backed Karun Nair to get a recall from the Indian Test team for the forthcoming tour of England. Team India is scheduled to visit England for a five-match series after the conclusion of the IPL.

Rayudu's comments came after Karun Nair's scintillating knock for Delhi Capitals against Mumbai Indians at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Sunday (April 13).

Playing his first IPL game since 2022, the right-handed batsman hit the ground running and smashed a whirlwind fifty.

He reached his fifty off just 22 balls, taking the Mumbai Indians bowlers to the cleaners.

Karun did not spare Jasprit Bumrah either, hitting him for 18 runs in the sixth over to complete his first IPL fifty since 2018. He eventually scored 89 runs off just 40 balls with the help of 12 fours and 5 sixes.

Ambati Rayudu heaps praise on Karun Nair

With Karun continuing his redemption in the game, Ambati Rayudu was all praise for the out-of-favour India batsman. He pointed out that not many manage to make a comeback after suffering a setback in India, and Karun Nair is an exception.

Rayudu heaped praise on Nair for his perseverance and hoped that the batsman gets a place in the India squad for the England Tests.

Rayudu taken aback by Karun's persistence

"It's sheer persistence because what you go through when things don't go well for you in India is not easy to withstand. A lot of people have gone through that, and very few have come out of that with flying colors, and Karun Nair is one," Rayudu said on Star Sports.

"Because once you get lost in the domestic system in India, it is very, very tough to make a comeback. Especially because mentally, you're always dragged down by so many things around you, and a lot of people will write you off.

"Cricket is a game that moves on fast, but still, cricket has moved on, but Karun Nair has not moved on. He has never left, learning, never left working hard, never left the belief that he could make a comeback, especially in test cricket. I would sincerely hope and love that he goes to England. He's on that flight, uh, in the test series," he added.

Meanwhile, Nair's knock eventually went in vain as Delhi Capitals suffered a 12-run loss. Despite being 119/1 in the 11th over while chasing 206 runs, Delhi Capitals failed to win the game. They were eventually bowled out for 193 runs to suffer their first defeat of the season.
