Cricket South Africa has been dealt with a massive blow as Keegan Petersen is ruled out of the Australia Tests. Petersen was injured during the final of the South Africa T20 Challenge and at that time it looked like he would be available for the Australia tour. The right-handed batter is quite an integral part of the team.

South Africa in the 2021-23 WTC has a golden chance to stamp its authority as they are currently placed in 2nd position in the points table. The team though suffered a heart-wrenching defeat against England in August where they lost the Test Series after being 1-0 up in the series which was quite astounding.

Keegan Petersen Injury

Dolphins Coach Imraan Khan was having an interaction with TimesLive and gave an update on Keegan Petersen’s injury. “It is a grade two to three hamstring tear, which means he is out until the new year, at the very least. He was in good form, he played some very good T20 cricket and he was seeing the ball well. But this is sport and anything can happen at any moment — it is unfortunate for him and we will miss him.” said Imraan Khan

“We are going to miss him, but this is an opportunity for other guys to raise their hands. It is also a big blow for the Proteas, as he is a key component of that batting unit.” he added.

Exciting Contest on Cards

Australia vs South Africa Test Series would be a fascinating one as both the teams have got dangerous bowling line-ups. Australia has a formidable batting lineup where the likes of Smith and Warner can decimate any bowling lineup on a given day. It won’t be wrong to say that it’s a battle between South Africa’s fast bowlers vs Australian batters as the Proteas have got threatening trio: Ngidi, Rabada and Nortje.

It would be interesting to see who replaces Keegan Petersen as Bavuma is expected to be in the playing 11 and at the same time Rassie van der Dussen is also in the frame. Interim Head Coach Malibongwe Maketa has a strenuous task on his hands as defeating Australia won’t be easy by any means.
