Kevin Pietersen breaks silence after Gautam Gambhir openly calls out his captaincy numbers

Former England batter Kevin Pietersen agreed with the point that Gautam Gambhir made against him for having a poor record as a captain.

Kevin Pietersen, during his playing days, has captained the England National team as well as two teams in the Indian Premier League. Pietersen, who was a prolific batsman across all formats in the top order, captained the RCB and Delhi Capitals in the IPL circuit. Gautam Gambhir made this statement on the subject of both Kevin Pietersen and AB de Villiers criticizing the captaincy tactics of all-rounder Hardik Pandya. The Mumbai Indians captain experienced a terrible IPL 2024 season upon his return to the franchise after a 2-year stay with the Gujarat Titans.

On his first season as full-time captain, Hardik Pandya led the Gujarat Titans towards the IPL 2022 title in only their first season at the richest T20 league. In his second season, he helped GT finish as runners-up of IPL 2023, losing to the Chennai Super Kings in the final at Ahmedabad.

But this season, his captaincy was under heavy scrutiny as he faced plenty of backlash from all the Mumbai Indians supporters. Hardik Pandya also had very little amount of support from the MI players itself. That proved to be the major reason why the 5-time champions exited the tournament after winning just 4 times in 13 league matches.

Many expert pundits had bashed Pandya for his captaincy tactics with Kevin Pietersen and AB de Villiers being two of them. When Gautam Gambhir was asked to reflect on Pietersen and de Villiers' comments, the 2012 and 2014 IPL-winning skipper had a harsh choice of words for them.

Gautam Gambhir had lashed out by saying that Pietersen and de Villiers' captaincy record is unlike their performances as they have nothing to show for.

"When they themselves did captaincy what were their own performances like? I do not think that whether it is Kevin Pietersen or AB de Villiers, there has ever been performances in their careers from a leadership point of view. Nothing.
