Kevin Pietersen shatters T Natarajan's selection hopes at DC with harsh reality check

Delhi Capitals (DC) mentor Kevin Pietersen opened up about why T Natarajan hasn't played any game for the team in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. He said that only 12 players can play and there is no place in the team currently, as everyone is performing well.

Delhi Capitals are having a decent time in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The Axar Patel-led side is currently placed 4th on the points table with 6 wins out of their nine games. With the way they are playing, they look all set to qualify for the playoffs of the tournament.

But one of the questions that has been revolving in the mind of every Delhi Capitals fan is, why hasn't Natarajan played a single game so far? The left-arm pacer was acquired by the franchise for INR 10.75 Crore in the mega auction, and it was almost certain that he would play.

But Delhi Capitals haven't shown trust in him as the franchise has preferred Mukesh Kumar, Mohit Sharma, and Dushmantha Chameera. This comes as a surprise because Natarajan has been a proven customer in the league and also has made a decent impact in international cricket as well.

Kevin Pietersen was asked about Natarajan, and replying to this, he said that the pacer doesn't fit in the team right now. But was quick to quip that the pacer is doing everything he has been asked to. Speaking to reporters, he said:

"We can only play 12 players, one being an impact player. And if you can tell me where he fits in at the moment, you would help us. If you can help us play 13-14, it would help us. One thing I can say about Natarajan is that he's doing everything that he's been asked to do, as are all of our players.

"What's been so impressive about our set-up is how good the guys are that are not playing, and they know that their chance is coming. They know that their chance is just around the corner."

Kevin Pietersen also highlighted how their players are ready to play anytime in the league. He cited the example of Donovan Ferreira and added that T Natarajan is also chomping at the bit to get there. He elaborated:

"You have a look at Donovan the other night, he turned up and faced a couple of balls against GT. I mean that was spur of the moment, but he was ready. It didn't work out, but he was ready and all of our players are ready. Anything can happen again.

"Look at I think Phil Salt went down with a viral. We've had a few players that have gone down the night before a game because of a viral or some sort of illness. So all our players are ready and Natu is again, he's chomping at the bit to get there."
