SA20 is in the headlines even before the beginning of the next season because of the former West Indies National Cricket Team all-rounder Kieron Pollard.
Pollard, who is known as a glob trotter as a specialist T20 cricketer after his retirement from the national team, has joined the Johannesburg Super Kings in the ongoing players' auction for the upcoming season of the SA20 franchise league.
Kieron Pollard is set to play for Johannesburg Super Kings in SA20
Kieron Pollard, who has represented the MI franchise teams across different franchise leagues, will be playing for the Johannesburg Super Kings, a sister concern of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK). CSK and MI are considered two arch rivals in the Indian Premier League, and Pollard is among the legends of the Mumbai-based franchise.
As the Mumbai Indians got notable success with the Caribbean all-rounder, the franchise officials never hesitated to confirm him for their other teams as well. In the SA20, Kieron Pollard played for MI Cape for two seasons before. It will be the first time he is set to play for any of CSK's teams. According to Cricbuzz, Pollard has joined Jo'burg Super Kings for R1.5M in the players' auction.

Why is Kieron Pollard a MI legend?
Throughout his franchise career, Pollard has played for multiple MI-owned teams across the planet. He most played for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL; more than a decade. He joined the IPL franchise in 2010, and his last IPL season was in 2022 with the same franchise. In those 12 years, he never played for any other teams in the Indian league. He was a pillar when MI won titles during the 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020 seasons.
Outside India, Pollard's bond with MI continued as he played for the MI Emirates in the ILT20 league, MI New York in Major League Cricket, and has taken the field with MI Cape Town for the SA20 league.

Kieron Pollard's past two seasons in SA20
Pollard, who is now 39 and well past his prime, witnessed a significant dip in his career in the previous SA20 season when he played only a couple of matches for MI Cape Town, scoring only 20 runs in 2 matches, while in the SA20 2023-24 season, his batting average in the league was 37.40 after batting in 9 innings.
With the ball, he also failed to do anything significant in the 2025-26 SA20 season as he remained wicketless. In 2023-24, he took 4 wickets in 7 innings for MI Cape Town.
