The Royal Challengers Bengaluru will be wearing their specially themed green jersey later today when they take on the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens stadium later today. RCB will be hoping that their new outfit can bring some good fortunes to the team after an extremely poor start to the 2024 IPL season.

While Bengaluru will be searching for only their 2nd victory of the season, KKR opponents will be aiming to do the double over the South-Indians.

In their first meeting against the Knight Riders at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium, RCB had suffered a one-sided loss by 7-wickets on 29th of March. That loss had come 4 days after they had defeated the Punjab Kings at home, which is still the only match they have won in this edition.

If they lose one more game or let's say today's game, then Faf du Plessis' side will be officially out of contention to reach the IPL play-offs for the second season in a row.

How have RCB performed in the Green Jersey?

While jerseys do not really have much to do in the game of Cricket and in Sports overall but the way the season has gone for RCB, maybe a change in their threads can help them produce a turnaround.

One can also be superstitious about this jersey but Bengaluru's actual record in that outfit does not look supportive and doesn't back them to grab a win today.

Out of the 13 games that they played in the Go Green initiative jersey since the 2011 season, RCB have been on the suffering side of things instead of being in the celebratory zone.

They have won only 4 times in that jersey - the first one came when they debuted their threads in 2011 against the Kochi Tuskers Kerala in Chinnaswamy. But they had to wait for 5 long seasons to grab their second win in the outfit and they did that emphatically against Gujarat Lions by 144 runs.

But in 2022 and 2023, RCB won the Go Green jersey games against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals respectively and that makes it 4.

Now in terms of defeats, Bengaluru have lost against 8 matches against Mumbai, Punjab, Chennai, Kolkata, Rajasthan and Delhi. In fact, they have suffered two of those 8 losses against their opponents today - first by 6-wickets in 2017 and then by 9-wickets in 2021.

So with a new jersey in the Super Sunday's afternoon game, RCB will also hope that Sun God comes in their favor and help them at least win the game in hand.

Can we see another 200+ score at Eden Gardens?

Although, the average score in Eden Gardens is 160-170 but the way this season has gone by, it will be fair to say that the crowd in Kolkata might as well witness another 200+ match.

The stadium has been a good batting surface over the years and earlier this season, Hyderabad had posted a total of 208. And the possibility of witnessing another batting carnage will only be possible if KKR goes on to bat first.
