It took Mitchell Starc some time but the Australia star has finally shown why Kolkata Knight Riders made him the most expensive player in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The left-arm pacer has blown Sunrisers Hyderabad away to put KKR on top in the ongoing first qualifier of IPL 2024 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The Australia star has picked up as many as three wickets inside the powerplay to leave the Hyderabad-based outfit reeling at 39 for 4 after five overs. In the first over, he castled in-form Travis Head for a duck to give KKR a stunning start. In the second over, Vaibhav Arora joined the party as well by sending back the dangerous Abhishek Sharma for just 3 runs.
Mitchell Starc then put KKR in the driver's seat by dismissing Nitish Reddy and Shahbaz Ahmed on consecutive deliveries in the fifth over. He first made Reddy edge one behind the stumps where Rahmanullah Gurbaz took a regulation catch.
On the very next delivery, Mitchell Starc rattled Shahbaz Ahmed's stumps with a beauty. The Australia pacer bowled a fast length delivery around off and Shahbaz decided against using his feet. As a result, he could not make good contact with the ball and ended up inside edging the ball onto the stumps.
