India batsman KL Rahul is on the path to recovery and is expected to fly to England with the Indian Test squad on June 2, it was reported by IANS. Rahul had been out of action since undergoing surgery for appendicitis in the middle of the IPL 2021.
Unfortunately, the IPL 2021 edition was stopped midway and postponed to a later date by the BCCI, after multiple cases of COVID-19 erupted in the team’s bio-bubbles. KL Rahul had pulled out of the tournament due to appendicitis but was named in the Indian squad for the upcoming tour of England.

“He is doing fine and has recovered well as far as I know. He should be travelling to England with the team. There is still time, about a month before the start of the World Test Championship final against New Zealand and another one-and-a-half month before the start of five-Test series against England. The Indian team has done this before too, taken injured Wriddhiman Saha to Australia last year and made him do rehab with the team,” a source close to the player told IANS.
However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to officially announce whether he or wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha (whose availability for England too was subject to fitness clearance) is fit to travel. Saha is expected to reach Mumbai on Monday but wicketkeeper-batsman KS Bharat has already been kept on standby and is in Mumbai.
The last time KL Rahul played a Test match was in 2019 against West Indies in Kingston, Since then, he has been traveling with the Indian team on various Test assignments but is yet to break into the playing XI.
