The India National Cricket Team is facing the Afghanistan National Cricket Team for a one-off Test at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, New Chandigarh. During the first day of the Test match, KL Rahul scored a magnificent century at this venue. But was dismissed right after scoring the ton, with Rahmanullah Gurbaz taking a sharp catch.

KL Rahul showed amazing class on the first day, as he remained calm and composed from the very start of the innings and took his time to score the hundred. The opener got to the landmark in 164 balls, but he did have luck favour him during the match. This was his 12th hundred in the traditional format of the game, with 9 coming as an opener.

KL Rahul out after scoring a hundred

The Karnataka-based batter has now been dismissed on his third successive Test century, for which he has fallen exactly on 100. First, back in England at Lord’s in 2025, 100 (177), then following that against the West Indies 100 (197) and today against Afghanistan 100 (165). After his wicket, Shubman Gill was disappointed as well, alongside him, and put his hand on his head in disappointment.

Rahul struck 11 boundaries throughout his innings. The century follows a great run of form in 2025, when he scored 813 runs in ten matches and cemented his place at the top of India's order. Rahul's first game as the team's new vice-captain went well.

KL Rahul scores third hundred at home

Rahul has been one of the most elegant batters in world cricket across formats. The team India opener has also been the most flexible batter and can bat anywhere the team wants him to bat, as he plays in the middle order in the ODI format and opens in the longest format of the game. He has always stood up tall for the Men in Blue.

Interestingly, in all his 12 hundreds, 9 have come out of the home nation, which showcases his amazing talent, resilience, and control in the difficult situations at the SENA countries, where he has 7 hundreds, with four in England, two in South Africa, and one in Australia. He is the batter with the most centuries in England as an opener.

Sai Sudharsan missed out on a hundred

Coming to the match, India captain Shubman Gill won the toss and elected to bat first. They lost Yashasvi Jaiswal early as the Southpaw was strangled down the leg side. Then Sai Sudharsan and Rahul stitched a partnership between them of 139 runs as the former missed out on a well-deserved hundred.

Sai Sudharsan was back scoring 81 runs, and after his wicket, Gill came in and scored a fifty and has been batting alongside Rishabh Pant. India are looking well settled in the game and looking to dominate the end of Day 1.
