KL Rahul stares down horrifically at Australia exit even before Border-Gavaskar Trophy begins

India star KL Rahul had to walk off the field after suffering an injury while batting on Friday (November 15) during the intra-squad match at the WACA. Team India are practicing for the upcoming five-match Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series.

Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal walked out to open the innings. The right-handed batsman, however, did not last long as he was forced to retire hurt because of the blow he suffered. As per reports, KL Rahul was hit on his elbow by a rising delivery.

KL Rahul got hit in the Intra Squad match

With the first India vs Australia Test not very far away, KL decided against taking any risk and walked off the field with the physio. KL looked in discomfort as he was leaving the field the photos of him exiting the ground went viral in no time, leaving the fans concerned.

KL Rahul likely to open for India vs Australia

The Indian team management will be desperately hoping that Rahul's injury is not serious and he remains available for selection. The Karnataka star is the frontrunner to open the innings for Team India if captain Rohit Sharma remains unavailable for the first Test. Rohit's wife is expecting the couple's child and the veteran batsman is likely to stay with his wife for the delivery.

If Rohit decides against playing the first Test, Rahul is likely to open the innings with Jaiswal. The team management's decision to send him to open the innings in the intra-squad game is yet another big indication that he is in line for a similar role in the first Test.

Abhimanyu Easwaran and Shubman Gill are in the ranks too

In case both Rohit and Rahul remain unavailable for the first Test, Abhimanyu Easwaran is likely to partner Jaiswal at the top of the order. The five-match Test series is scheduled to get underway next week.

The first Test will be played in Perth on November 22. Team India have won their last two Test series in Australia and are eyeing a historic third series victory in a row.
