India National Cricket Team batting coach Sitanshu Kotak has finally revealed whether the star batter KL Rahul is happy while batting at the No.6 position in ODI cricket.

Sitanshu Kotak also showered rich praise on KL Rahul for the versatility he offers to Team India, as he possesses the capability to play as an opener and as a middle-order batter.

Gautam Gambhir & Co. making KL Rahul bat at No.6

The 32-year-old batter KL Rahul has been made to bat at No.6 position in ODIs by the Gautam Gambhir-led team management.

Earlier, he used to bat at No.5. However, with the head coach's preference for the left-right combination, all-rounder Axar Patel got the No.5 spot and KL Rahul was pushed further down the order.

This move by the Indian team management has received mixed views from the former cricketers and experts. The likes of Dodda Ganesh have slammed Gautam Gambhir for experimenting too much with Rahul's batting position while some other experts have backed this decision.

Talking about the performance of the right-handed batter, Rahul has batted quite well and played a key role in some of India's wins. In the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025, he has registered scores of 41*, 23, and 42*.

But whatever I have spoken to him, he is happy to do whatever the team requires - Sitanshu Kotak

Speaking to the media on Friday, March 7, Sitanshu Kotak revealed that KL Rahul is happy to perform whatever role the team management demands from him. Sitanshu Kotak stated (as quoted by PTI):

"He is someone who can open, someone who can go at 4 or 5, and someone who is doing what number 6 is demanding. He adapts well and he is very happy in the role he is performing.

"When he starts performing at that number that obviously helps him also because it is a different situation he is going in. So, that is great for the team as well. But whatever I have spoken to him, he is happy to do whatever the team requires, and he has been doing that."

The seniors, young players... they all talk. That is something very priceless - Sitanshu Kotak

Sitanshu Kotak further talked about the pressure on the players heading into the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final against New Zealand.

He said that seniors like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and others have been regularly talking to youngsters to make sure they are not under any kind of pressure before the summit clash.

"The seniors, young players... they all talk. That is something very priceless. Rohit, Virat, Hardik, those guys are talking along with Shami and Jadeja.

"They have 15-20 years of experience. They are talking to the players who have been playing for two or three years. So, some things, obviously, you learn with experience," the India coach said.
