Delhi Capitals (DC) are considering changes to their batting lineup for the final three league games of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Veteran wicketkeeper‑batter KL Rahul is likely to open for the Axar Patel‑led side, which has struggled at the start of recent matches in the marquee tournament.

The IPL 2025 season was suspended for a week due to tensions at the India‑Pakistan border, and the match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals was called off midway on May 8. Delhi are currently fifth on the points table with 13 points from 11 matches, keeping their playoff hopes alive.

While Rahul has performed reasonably well in the middle order, the team management is eager to make the most of his experience during the powerplay overs.

The franchise has struggled to find consistency at the top. Jake Fraser-McGurk struggled to score, and Faf du Plessis missed a few matches due to injury. Delhi are aiming to bring some stability to their lineup with crucial matches coming up against Gujarat Titans (GT), Mumbai Indians (MI), and Punjab Kings.

KL Rahul batted at different positions throughout IPL 2025. In 10 matches, he has opened once, batted at No. 3 twice, and in the other seven matches at No. 4. Overall, Rahul has scored 381 runs at a strike rate of 142.16. However, he scored 101 runs from four innings at a strike rate of 113.48 in Delhi.

A look at KL Rahul's fine show for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025

KL Rahul was bought by Delhi Capitals for ₹14 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction after being released by Lucknow Super Giants last year. He has delivered strong performances with the bat for Delhi this season.

Rahul missed the opening game due to the birth of his child but quickly became the team’s leading run-scorer. Rahul has recorded three half-centuries so far, with his best knock being an unbeaten 93 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

As the IPL resumes, Delhi Capitals will be hoping KL Rahul continues his good form to help secure a playoff spot.

Delhi Capitals to Restart Campaign at Home vs Gujarat Titans on Sunday

Delhi Capitals started IPL 2025 with four consecutive wins but have struggled in the remaining games. They now face three of the tournament’s top teams. With seven teams still in contention for the playoffs, Delhi must perform consistently to stay in the hunt.

The team also depends heavily on their bowlers, especially after Mitchell Starc’s confirmed absence for the rest of the season. T Natarajan, Mustafizur Rahman, Mohit Sharma, and Mukesh Kumar will be part of the bowling attack.

Delhi Capitals will restart their campaign at home against Gujarat Titans on Sunday, followed by a match against Mumbai Indians, and will conclude their league matches against Punjab Kings in Jaipur.
