India National Cricket Team skipper Rohit Sharma has been in the news for a while now and nothing has been going his way. His captaincy and his place in the team have come under a massive scanner after the poor performances in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.

As per the reports in Indian Express, it is learned that one of the senior players in the team is ready to take the captaincy on an interim basis. Although the name of the player is not known, he is ready to take charge as an interim option amid all the talks related to Rohit Sharma's retirement.

Gautam Gambhir delivered a harsh assessment of players after a thrashing loss in the Melbourne Test

The reports claimed that after the India National Cricket Team suffered a thrashing loss in the Melbourne Test, there was chaos in the Indian dressing room. It is learned that head coach Gautam Gambhir delivered a harsh assessment of players, saying that he had enough subpar performances.

Rohit Sharma, who missed the first Test in Perth due to the birth of his child, joined the team in Adelaide. In his absence, it was Jasprit Bumrah, who captained the team and guided India to win. But since the first Test, some players have been eyeing the captaincy role and have openly mentioned that they want to do something special in the ongoing tour.

A senior player has portrayed himself as ‘Mr Fix-It’, not wanting any of the young players to take over leadership roles

A senior player, who has put up his hand to take charge of the team, reportedly has portrayed himself as ‘Mr Fix-It’, and it has been learnt that he isn’t convinced that the young guns are ready to take over leadership roles. Hence, he wants to take charge on an interim basis.

This all has come after the extremely poor performances of Rohit Sharma with the bat in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. He joined the team in Adelaide and decided to bat in the middle so that KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal could continue opening, especially after heroics in Perth.

Rohit Sharma might take a call on his future after the ongoing tour

Rohit failed to deliver in two games in the middle order and in the last game in Melbourne, he decided to open. However, the same fate unfolded as he bagged failures in both innings, and this saw him facing a lot of criticism for taking the decision in his own interests and not delivering.

In the ongoing series against Australia, Rohit has managed just 31 runs, scoring just 3, 6, 10, 3, and 9 in his 5 innings Down Under. Even before the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, he looked in poor form as he scored just 42 runs in four innings against Bangladesh and 91 runs across three games against New Zealand, with both series at home.

It is also learned that there is a high chance that Rohit Sharma might take a call on his future after the ongoing tour. The last match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 will be played in Sydney from 3rd January, and it will be a massive opportunity for India and captain Rohit to make a comeback.
