Kraigg Brathwaite surpasses Garry Sobers as West Indies' greatest in key record

West Indies National Cricket Team skipper Kraigg Brathwaite achieved a massive feat for his team in the history of Test cricket. He overtook Sir Garfield Sobers to become the player with the most number of consecutive games for the team in the longest format of the game.
West Indies National Cricket Team captain Kraigg Brathwaite achieved the feat in the ongoing second Test against the Bangladesh National Cricket Team. The game between the two teams commenced on Saturday (30th November) at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica.
Skipper Kraigg Brathwaite now has played 86 consecutive matches for the West Indies National Cricket Team, overtaking Garry Sobers, who played 85 games on the trot. The batter has been one of the incredible servants for the team in the longest format of the game.
Brathwaite has been a consistent performer for the West Indies National Cricket Team. He is one of only five openers worldwide to surpass 5,000 Test runs between 2014 and 2024, and with the way he is going, it won't be a surprise if he plays 100 games on the trot in the longest format of the game.

While talking about going past Sir Garfield Sobers, Brathwaite said that it means a lot to him as he believes that in the generation of T20 cricket, he has done a great job for West Indies in Test cricket. He said that his goal is to play 100 games for the team. Speaking about the same, he explained:
“It means a lot. I’m extremely thankful because in this generation, there’s a lot of T10 and T20 cricket, but Test cricket is the real test. In the end, I will feel like I’ve done a really good job for the West Indies.”
“My goal—I will never forget—was to play 100 Test matches. Not just to play them, but to earn 100 caps for the West Indies. That is what my life has been about. Test cricket is everything to me, and I can never be in this position without putting God first.”

Kraigg Brathwaite claimed that hard work and perseverance will allow players to succeed at the Test level. He highlighted the challenge of responding when the failures come in Test cricketers. He added:
"You know, it’s just hard work. Hard work over the years, knowing what to improve, and identifying areas to work on when you get back home. To succeed at this level for a long time, only hard work and perseverance will get you through.”
"It’s great to make a debut hundred, a maiden century—that’s lovely. But it’s how you respond when the failures come that defines you as a Test cricketer. People will talk, but it’s about how you fight back and remain at the top level. To now be tying Sir Garfield Sobers’ record—*that* is what hard work does.”
Don’t be fooled by the lure of T20 cricket and quick money - Kraigg Brathwaite
Kraigg Brathwaite further passed on a strong message to youngsters, saying that they need to set their goals and work harder. He also urged them to not get fooled by T20 cricket and quick money. He concluded by saying that legends of world cricket come from Test cricket and Young players need to do basic right.
"Set your goals, and remember, you have to work harder now. Don’t be fooled by the lure of T20 cricket and quick money. While you can do everything, Test cricket is the ultimate test. The legends of world cricket come from Test cricket. If you can master the basics—like a solid defensive shot—you can play any form of cricket you want.”
