Krunal Pandya’s time with Warwickshire has been cut short due to a groin injury. The all-rounder, who the county club signed for the Royal London One-Day Cup, is scheduled to fly back to India on Monday night.

Krunal suffered the injury while scoring 37 runs for Warwickshire against Nottinghamshire on August 17. He did not come out to bat in the second innings of the contest, and he also missed Warwickshire’s next two games against Middlesex and Durham.

Krunal’s injury is expected to keep him out of action for three weeks, which would prevent him from participating in the knockout stages should Warwickshire advance.

The director of cricket for Warwickshire, Paul Farbrace, said in a statement released by the county, “It is disappointing to lose Krunal for the duration of the tournament, but he leaves the club with our very best wishes. “Krunal was a great role model for the team, and I know the younger players in the team will have learned a lot from him both on and off the field.”

“Given the short turnaround, we will not be signing a replacement, but I am immensely delighted to see our squad build on Sunday’s terrific success over Durham.”

Krunal Pandya played five Royal London Cup matches:

Krunal scored 134 runs at an average of 33.50 this season while playing five Royal London Cup matches for Warwickshire, including an 82-ball 74 in the drawn game against Surrey at The Oval. With his left-arm spin, he took nine wickets for 25.00, including two consecutive three-fors against Sussex and Leicestershire.

With nine points from seven games, Warwickshire is currently one point behind the four teams in front of them in Group A of the Royal London Cup.

One of two Indian players signed by Warwickshire this year was Krunal. The other was fast bowler Mohammed Siraj, who was brought in for the County Championship Division 1 season’s final stretch.
