Team India left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav is not included in the playing XI for the first Test of the two-match series against Bangladesh.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma opted for two spinners and three fast bowlers on a traditionally spin-friendly pitch at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Kuldeep Yadav last played a Test match during the five-match Test series against England earlier this year.

The left-arm spinner picked up 19 wickets in four Tests at an average of 20.16, with best bowling figures of 5/72. He was named "Player of the Match" during the final Test match in Dharamsala.

Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja are the two spinners in the Indian bowling attack for the series opener.

Jasprit Bumrah, who last played for India in the T20 World Cup 2024, returns to the national team. Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep will share fast-bowling duties in the match.

Three Seamers And Two Spinners - Rohit Sharma

After losing the toss in Chennai on Thursday, September 19, Rohit Sharma stated that Team India is focused on the challenge ahead.

He added that the team had a good week of preparation. Sharma mentioned that they are playing with three seamers and two spinners.

"We want to focus on what lies in front of us. We came here a week back, we had a good prep leading up to this one. We feel confident. Three seamers and two spinners - Bumrah, Akash Deep, Siraj, Ashwin, and Jadeja," Rohit said, as quoted by Cricbuzz.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) prepared a red-soil pitch for the first Test match to counter Bangladesh's spin attack.

The red-soil surface is expected to provide good bounce and carry for pacers. Akash Deep is included in the XI after his strong performance in the 2024 Duleep Trophy.
