Two days after India's 15-member squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 was announced, captain Rohit Sharma and chief selector Ajit Agarkar interacted with the media. While the two tried their best to explain the selections, Rohit Sharma made sure to keep his cards close to the chest as far as the team strategy is concerned.
The India skipper was asked the reason behind picking four spinners in the team and not one being a frontline off-spinner. In reply, Rohit Sharma said that he 'definitely wanted four spinners' in the squad although he did not reveal the reason, saying that the 'opposition captains are listening to this'.
"I don't want to go too much into detail on it, I'm sure opposition captains are listening to this. I definitely wanted four spinners. We've played a lot of cricket there [Caribbean]. We know what the conditions are like. With morning starts at 10-10.30am, there's a little bit of technical aspect involved in this," said Rohit Sharma.
One of the journalists also asked the veteran batsman about the team combination for the marquee event. Rohit Sharma had his usual nonchalant response to the query as he straightaway declined to reveal the combination more than a month before India's first game in the World Cup.
"5 tareekh ko match hai, abhi mai bolke kya karunga? Abhi kyun janna hai aapko combination (Roughly translated to: The match is on 5th. Why would I reveal the combination now? Why do you want the combination now?)," said Rohit Sharma.
