Former Pakistan cricketer Abdur Rouf Khan has said that the team should not expect any results from their current skipper, Shan Masood. Pakistan are currently playing a Test series against Bangladesh in Bangladesh.
This series is part of the World Test Championship for the 2025-27 cycle. The second Test of this series started on 16 May after Bangladesh won the first by 104 runs. In the second Test, Bangladesh continued their domination over Pakistan. The Bangladesh players carried over their form from the first Test in Mirpur into the second Test in Sylhet.
Bangladesh set a target of 437
Pakistan captain Shan Masood invited the home team to bat, and the move seemed to pay off. Khurram Shahzad and Mohammad Abbas tore through the line-up to put Bangladesh in a spot of bother at 116/6.
Wicketkeeper Litton Das then saved the collapse as reliably as he could with a fighting century. Das put up important partnerships of 60 with Taijul Islam, 38 with Taskin Ahmed, and 64 with Shoriful Islam, respectively.
Pakistan's reply was not any better. Babar Azam made 68, but the only other player to even cross 25 was Sajid Khan, who made 38. Nahid Rana and Taijul Islam took three wickets each to give Bangladesh a slender lead.
In the second innings, Mushfiqur Rahim made a national record 14th Test hundred and was supported by fifties from Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Litton Das. Khurram Shahzad once again took 4 wickets as he had in the first innings, but Pakistan's eventual target ballooned up to 437.
At Stumps on Day 4, all three of Shan Masood, Mohammad Rizwan, and Salman Agha had all made in excess of 70, inching closer to the target. When day 5 begins on Wednesday, Pakistan will need 121 runs to win, while Bangladesh will need just 3 wickets. Taijul Islam has added 4 wickets so far to his three in the first innings.
"It's a pipe dream" - Khan on Shan Masood
Abdur Rouf Khan took to his X account and criticised Pakistan captain Shan Masood for his lack of confidence. He also went on to call Masood an 'average player' and said that expecting results under him was essentially a dream.
"When your own captain is a mediocre batsman and is playing with a mediocre average and a terrible captaincy record. His own average is so mediocre that it does not justify his inclusion in the team. Expecting a miracle or a positive result in such a situation would be a crazy dream," he wrote on his X account.

Shan Masood's record as Test captain
Ever since he took on the armband, Shan Masood has been unable to bring any significant results to the Test team.
Before the start of the ongoing Test match against Bangladesh, Masood led Pakistan to just 4 wins and 11 losses from 15 matches. Masood has also won just one series as captain out of 6, including a 0-2 whitewash against Bangladesh at home.
