England skipper Ben Stokes scored a Test century on Day 4 (Saturday, July 26) of the ongoing fourth Test against India at Old Trafford in Manchester. The left-handed batter reached the three-digit mark for the first time since his century against Australia two years ago at Lord's Cricket Ground in London.

Ben Stokes resumed Day 4 on 77 off 134 balls. The southpaw had formed a crucial partnership with Joe Root, who brought up his 38th Test century on Day 3. Notably, Stokes left the field due to cramps after the 116th over but returned to continue his innings following the dismissal of Chris Woakes.

Stokes removed his helmet, looked skyward, and paid tribute to his late father with a hand gesture. This was his first Test century in nearly three years. The Old Trafford crowd gave him a standing ovation as he celebrated the moment.

The left-handed batter has become just the fourth English cricketer to achieve the rare feat of scoring a century and taking a five-wicket haul in the same Test match.

He joins an elite group that includes Gus Atkinson (vs Sri Lanka, Lord’s 2024), Tony Greig (vs West Indies, Bridgetown 1974), and Ian Botham, who managed the double five times in his career.

You Can Tell from the Celebrations by Ben Stokes - Michael Vaughan

Former England captain Michael Vaughan praised Ben Stokes for his century, adding that it meant a lot to him. Vaughan described Stokes as a tireless and remarkable cricketer who had gone through a long wait for a Test hundred.

"You can tell from the celebrations by Ben Stokes that this means a huge amount. An absolute trojan of a cricketer, he's incredible but it has been a while since he got a hundred. He has had to work and work and he's found a flow here. Things are coming together nicely for England," Vaughan stated, as quoted by BBC Test Match Special.
