Legends ignored as Rohit Sharma declared "greatest six-hitter" by Rahul Dravid

India National Cricket Team head coach Rahul Dravid has put forward the name of the all-format captain Rohit Sharma as the greatest six-hitter produced by the country.

Rohit Sharma is undoubtedly one of the greatest hitters in the history of cricket and he has shown his class across all three formats of the game. The Indian captain doesn’t shy away from taking down the bowlers with his perfectly timed strokes in all types of conditions.

Rohit Sharma has already shattered numerous six-hitting records and he sits at the top of the list of the players with the most sixes in international cricket. The opening batsman has already slammed 597 maximum across formats and closing in on the 600 sixes milestone.

India National Cricket Team will not be playing any international matches till June and the veteran batter will be looking forward to achieving the feat when India enter the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and USA.

Talking about the most sixes in their career list, the West Indies legend Chris Gayle holds the second spot and he is followed by Shahid Afridi, Brendon McCullum, and Martin Guptill as they have smoked 553, 476, 398, and 383 sixes respectively.

Rohit Sharma smashed 103 runs off 162 balls, with 13 fours and 3 sixes, in the fifth Test against England in Dharamsala and played a key role in his team’s win by an innings and 64 runs. A lot of sixes were hit by the Indian batters during the Test series and speaking on Jio Cinema after the match, head coach Rahul Dravid was asked to share his thoughts on the matter, he laughed and said, “I just show them videos of me, man. So they are hitting sixes now.”

He further said that they have got a player of Rohit Sharma’s caliber in the team who has phenomenal six-hitting skills.

“But it is incredible to watch, and it is one facet of the game that is at a different level. We have someone (Rohit Sharma) who is the greatest six-hitter India has ever produced. It is phenomenal-the six-hitting power, the skill, and the ability. Every time they hit the ball, it seems to go out. It’s amazing.”

Overall, 102 sixes were hit during the India vs England Tests with the hosts hitting 72 and visitors hitting 30. This was the first instance in the history of Test cricket when a century of maximums were smashed.

India head coach showered massive praise on the skipper Rohit and expressed his delight over the latter’s journey as a batter. He also credited Rohit for keeping the dressing room environment of the team very calm and cool.

“It’s a pleasure to watch Rohit bat, from middle order to opener, it has been a great journey – with 3 down in Rajkot, scoring that hundred”.

“Credit goes to Rohit Sharma to keep the dressing room calm and cool and relaxed after the loss of first test match,” he added.

Rohit will be next seen in action in the Indian Premier League (IPL) where he will play under the leadership of Hardik Pandya at Mumbai Indians (MI).
