Young allrounder Nitish Reddy is one of the upcoming stars of Indian cricket. Recently, Reddy spoke about his aspirations to play for India and serve the team for a long time.

After a fantastic IPL 2024 season, Nitish Reddy received his maiden international call-up when he was selected in India's squad for the tour of Zimbabwe. But unfortunately, he got injured at the wrong time as he suffered a hernia niggle. As a result, he had to be replaced by Shivam Dube in the squad.

But the youngster is confident of making it to India's squad once again. Reddy can be a useful player for India in the future, given he is a fast-bowling allrounder, which is quite rare in this part of the world.

Nitish Reddy speaks on his aspirations to play for India

During an interview with News18 CricketNext, Nitish Reddy was asked about his future ambitions. Despite missing out on the tour of Zimbabwe due to injury, he was positive that he will get the opportunities in the future and just needs to grab them.

“We have to just perform whatever opportunities we are getting and let the BCCI do what the selection they wanted. But we have to be focused and we have to perform in whatever situations we are getting. We just need to grab those opportunities,” Reddy said.

Nitish Reddy had a fantastic IPL 2024 season where he impressed everybody with his talent and skills. Not only did he have the talent, but the youngster also showed immense temperament to drag his team Sunrisers Hyderabad out of difficult situations on several occasions.

Nitish Reddy's record in IPL 2024

In IPL 2024, the all-rounder scored 303 runs in 11 innings at an average of 33.66 and a strike rate of 142.92. Due to the impact player rule, he was not given many chances to roll his arm over but Reddy managed to pick up three wickets with the ball. Adding to this, he is a fantastic fielder too.

Nitish Reddy is a skillful middle-order batter who has good technique and the temperament to play long innings. He can play both pace and spin well. Adding to his skillset, he is a talented seam bowler as well and bowls at a good pace in mid-130 kph.

If he can keep himself injury-free, he can be the all-rounder that India is looking for. Reddy can be the perfect substitute for Hardik Pandya in the future if he can live up to the expectations. He might not have a great first-class record yet but can be useful in white-ball formats given his varied skillset.

Nitish Reddy can get a chance during India's white-ball tour of Sri Lanka in July-August. The tour will also mark the start of a new era for India under new coach Gautam Gambhir. With Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja retired from the format, Reddy might get a chance to begin his international career.
