Bangladesh, on Sunday (August 25), thrashed Pakistan by 10 wickets in the first Test of the ongoing two-match series to register a historic win. It is Bangladesh's first-ever win over Pakistan in Tests.

Before the recently concluded Test in Rawalpindi, Pakistan and Bangladesh had played 13 Tests against each other. Of the 13 Tests, Pakistan had won 12 while one ended in a draw. Bangladesh had lost their first eight Tests against Pakistan before drawing the ninth Test in Khulna in 2015. It was followed by four more defeats.

However, the past record and reputation made little difference in Rawalpindi as Bangladesh registered one of the most famous wins in their Test history. With both the teams scoring big in their first innings, it looked like the match would end in a draw.

However, Bangladesh's bowlers had other ideas. They came up with a brilliant effort on the final day to bowl out Pakistan for just 146 runs to put their team on the verge of a historic victory. 146 is also the lowest innings total against Bangladesh in Tests.

Earlier in the Test, Pakistan declared their first innings on 448 for 6. The hosts were reeling at 16 for 3 at one stage but centuries from Mohammad Rizwan (171*) and Saud Shakeel (141) helped them recover and post a big total.

In reply, Bangladesh finished their innings on 565 runs to take a handy lead of 117 runs. The star of the show was their former captain Mushfiqur Rahim who scored 191 runs. The likes of Shadman Islam (93), Mominul Haque (50), Litton Das (56), and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (77) also played crucial knocks as well to put their team in a strong position.

At the end of the fourth day, Pakistan were on 23 for 1. Although Bangladesh had a good lead, not many were expecting Pakistan to lose the game. However, the tourists came up with a brilliant display with the ball to create history.

Bangladesh picked up as many as five wickets in the first session to leave Pakistan reeling at 105 for 6 before the lunch break. Pakistan could add only 41 more runs before being all out for 146 runs to set Bangladesh a target of 30 runs. Mehidy and Shakib Al Hasan made the difference with the ball for Bangladesh, taking 4 and 3 wickets respectively. Chasing 30, Bangladesh chased down the total inside 7 overs without losing any wickets.
