After keeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim and opener Tamim Iqbal, batsman Liton Das has been ruled out of the upcoming T20I series against Australia. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) finally confirmed the five-match T20I series against Australia last week, starting from the 1st of August. Das’ family matter forced him to miss a crucial series for his side’s preparation ahead of the T20 World Cup.
Bangladesh chief selector Minhajul Abedin earlier had no doubts about the availability of Mustafizur Rahman and Liton Das. Though the duo would have been in contention for selection from the second or third T20I, Abedin asserted he was not too worried about them.
He also expressed confidence ahead of the series as Bangladesh beat Zimbabwe in the T20 series 2-1. Das has so far featured in 33 T20Is, scoring 646 runs, averaging 20.83, maintaining a decent strike rate of 134.02. The 26-year old has also has four half-centuries in the format.
Liton Das has to attend to a family matter, for which we can’t really do anything: BCB Chief
“Liton is out of the series. He has to attend to a family matter, for which we can’t really do anything. We initially had a 20-man squad but after Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim had to pull out, Liton is also not in the squad. We are down to 17 players. The quarantine in Dhaka started on July 20, so we can only have the players who are travelling back from Zimbabwe on July 28,” Khan said as quoted by ESPN Cricinfo.
