The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is in jeopardy because of its own stance not to travel to India to play the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026, citing security concerns, while the cricketers of the Bangladesh cricket team might have different thoughts. The possible difference of thoughts between the cricketers and the officials put the board in a great crisis situation.
On Thursday, through a press conference, the officials in Bangladesh made it clear that they are not willing to travel to India to play the T20 World Cup, as they claimed that they did not get any assurance from the International Cricket Council (ICC). The decision came in daylight after a meeting with the cricketers. But according to a fresh media report, Bangladeshi cricketers might have different thoughts, which the officials did not take with seriousness.
Bangladesh cricketers might have other thoughts
According to a report published by Cricbuzz, star cricketers of Bangladesh, like T20I captain Litton Das and Test skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto, were in favour of travelling in India to play the tournament and might have voiced their thoughts in the meeting, but that had no effect on the decision made by the officials.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board remained strong in their opinions on not travelling to India because of expressing ‘security’ concerns. In support of their decision, they put ‘previous incidents’ and possible threats as examples.
One-sided meeting between players and officials?
It seems that the meeting was mostly one-sided. The officials might have arranged the meeting only to inform the cricketers about their decision. Did the cricketers get any significant chance to put their thoughts to reverse the decision? The question is raised.
“The meeting was called not to give our consent, as it was made out to be initially. Rather, we were called so that we are aware of the development in the ongoing crisis. They made up their mind and decided what they will do before coming into the meeting, and it’s not like any decision was taken taking our views into consideration,” a cricketer informed the media.
Bangladesh government's sports advisor called it 'Injustice'
Yesterday, after the meeting, Bangladesh government's sports advisor Asif Nazrul claimed that even after their plea to the council to shift their World Cup venues from India to Sri Lanka, because of possible security threats from the cricketers and people related to the team, they did not get any satisfying response from the ICC, which annoyed the BCB and the government official very much.
“I think we did not get justice from ICC. Whether we will play in the World Cup or not is entirely a government decision. Nothing happened in India in the recent past that suggests things have changed there (security-wise). We hope ICC will give us justice,” Nazrul said.
