Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh has shared his views on the recent altercation between his former teammates Gautam Gambhir and S Sreesanth. The ex-India cricketers were involved in a heated altercation during the game between India Capitals and Gujarat Giants in the Legends League Cricket.
It all began after Gambhir smashed Sreesanth for a six and a four in his very first over. Later in the over when Sreesanth bowled a dot delivery, he decided to give the opening batsman a long stare which did not go down well with the latter. While Gambhir did not say anything to the bowler at that time, he made his displeasure clear with a hand gesture.
Later in the game, the two were involved in a heated exchange and the umpires and other players had to intervene to bring the situation under control. Soon after the game ended, Sreesanth uploaded a video to share the details about the altercation, saying:
“Just wanted to clear the air with what happened with Mr fighter. One who always fights with all his colleagues. For no reason whatsoever. He does not even respect his senior players, including Viru bhai. That’s exactly what happened today. Without any provocation, he just kept on calling me something which was very rude which shouldn’t have been said by Mr Gautam Gambhir.
On Thursday (December 7), he took to Instagram to claim that Gambhir kept calling him a “fixer”. He also accused his former teammate of abusing him. Gambhir, on the other hand, is yet to speak publicly on the incident although he did post a cryptic post to take a dig at Sreesanth.
Harbhajan Singh reacts to Sreesanth-Gambhir controversy:
Harbhajan Singh was asked to share his views on the incident when he was interacting with the media ahead of his team Manipal Tigers’ clash against Urbanrisers Hyderabad in the Legends League Cricket. In reply, the India great left the journalists in splits by copying Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan’s famous dialogue, saying:
“Bade baad shehro mein chhoti chhoti baatein hoti rehti hain (in big cities, small things keep happening).”
Harbhajan Singh was also involved in an infamous controversy with Sreesanth in the past. During the inaugural season of the IPL, he had slapped Sreesanth after a game. When reminded of that incident, the former spinner said:
“That is an incident of the past. Let’s not bring that up. What happened then was not right, and I don’t have any hesitation in saying that the fault was mine. I don’t know what happened this time (between Sreesanth and Gambhir). LLC has offered good cricket this year, and it would be better to stick to that only.”
