The T20 World Cup 2024 has been totally in favor of the bowlers so far. The batters have found it difficult to hit the ball through the line while the bowlers have made full use of bowler-friendly conditions on offer.

The tournament is jointly hosted by the West Indies and the USA. The pitches in the USA were a bit of an unknown before the tournament. But it turned out to be conducive for the bowlers, especially the fast bowlers.

The biggest example was the pitches in New York. A total of 8 games were played at the venue, which produced the highest score of 137-8 by Canada. Uneven bounce and excessive seam movement have added to the batters' misery, who haven't been able to play their natural game so far.

Even in the West Indies, apart from one or two games, the pitches have been slow and have assisted the spinners. The slow and turning conditions in Guyana have proved to be difficult for the batters. With the remaining matches to be held in the West Indies, bowlers could come into the party.

Lockie Ferguson expresses relief after playing on bowler-friendly surfaces

New Zealand fast bowler Lockie Ferguson expressed relief after playing on bowler-friendly pitches in the T20 World Cup 2024. In a video posted by ICC on social media, Ferguson stated that he enjoyed bowling on such a wicket, especially after the IPL.

"Yeah, no, no runs today. But yeah, look, obviously a tough wicket to bat on. So I guess from my point of view, coming from the IPL, where there were a lot of runs being scored. It's nice to have a wicket like that for a change," Ferguson said.

"It was just one of those days, I think you sort of have them from time to time, but as I said, the wicket was not easy to bat on. You could see when our boys went on it as well. So I guess from a bowling point of view, nice to be able to bowl on wickets like that. But I can't see it happen too many times," he added.

Ferguson was on fire in New Zealand's final match of the tournament where he produced figures of 4-4-0-3 in the match against Papua New Guinea at Trinidad. In the process, he became the second bowler in T20Is to bowl 24 dot balls.

His brilliant performance helped New Zealand restrict Papua New Guinea to just 78 runs. New Zealand chased down the target in 12.2 overs with 7 wickets to spare. The right-arm quick was adjudged Player of the Match for his stupendous performance with the ball.

Lockie Ferguson played for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL 2024. The IPL this year saw a no. of high scores with batting records getting broken. Almost all the bowlers had high economy rates thanks to the batter-friendly surfaces. But in total contrast, the pitches in the T20 World Cup 2024 have been in favor of the bowlers.
