India's T20 World Cup-winning skipper Rohit Sharma recently appeared on JioHotstar, where he mentioned the vital moment in the ICC T20 World Cup final match between India and South Africa. He highlighted the event of Suryakumar Yadav's stunning catch near the boundary ropes.
India never looked into the game until Rishabh Pant halted the match to call the physio to check on his knee. This marked Jasprit Bumrah's return with the ball in the 16th over of the match when South Africa needed just 30 runs off 30 balls.
He might not have broken the partnership, but he gave a huge blow to the flow of runs for South Africa. Hardik Pandya dismissed Heinrich Klaasen in the 17th over with a wide delivery, giving a massive blow to the South African chase.
After quite a few overs in the game, Hardik was handed the ball in the last over of the game by skipper Rohit Sharma. With 16 runs needed and David Miller on the strike, he looped Hardik's wide full toss off to Surya, who took a running catch at the boundary, popping the ball back from the fence.
Rohit detailed Surya's catch: "Surya was at long-off, and that catch—honestly, it was the moment of the match. Even after he took it, the umpires were checking if he touched the rope. Everyone's heart was in their mouth. I was at long-on, watching it unfold. It looked like a six until Surya flew in and took that blinder."
"The zoom camera showed the rope didn't move-which usually happens if it's touched. That gave us some relief. But until it flashed on the big screen, you don't know what the third umpire's going to decide," Rohit added.
Rohit Sharma opens up on keeping Rahul Dravid for the T20 World Cup
The T20 World Cup win marked the end of the tenure of Indian coach Rahul Dravid. The former coach had decided to step down from the role of Indian coach after the end of the ICC World Cup 2023, when India ended their campaign on a disappointing note after losing the final against Australia.
"Rahul bhai wanted to step down after the 2023 World Cup. But we said, 'There's another World Cup in six months. We've come this far. Let's give it one more shot.' He agreed, and I'm so glad he did. I'm sure even now, he feels that he made the right decision," Rohit Sharma made a revelation.

India's white-ball success under Rohit Sharma
Indian captain Rohit Sharma can be said to be one of India's most successful skippers in the history of white-ball cricket. Only MS Dhoni has won more trophies than Rohit in the limited-overs format.
India has played three major limited-overs tournaments ever since Rohit Sharma stepped in as India's captain. Under Sharma's captaincy, India advanced to the ICC World Cup 2023 final undefeated. He might not land a title there, but this followed his reign in the ICC T20 World Cup title win in 2024 and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 title, both claimed by Rohit Sharma as the Indian captain.
Suryakumar to face first challenge as the Indian T20 captain in the Asia Cup
After Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from the shortest format of the game in international cricket, Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav was picked as the Indian captaincy choice, sidelining the likes of Jasprit Bumrah or Hardik Pandya.
Suryakumar holds immense experience with the Indian T20 side, as this is the only format he features in. He recently showed his domination with his stunning stint in the IPL, where he made many records and was also the second-highest run-getter of the season.
Suryakumar has won all T20I series ever since he stepped in as the captain for India; however, his impact will be tested in the upcoming Asia Cup, which will be Suryakumar's first major tournament as India's captain.
