The LPL 2023 match between Jaffna Kings and B-Love Kandy on Saturday, August 12 continued despite a snake just guarding the boundary line. The cameraman was put to safety as the snake was just close to the wires.
This is not the first instance where a snake has disrupted play in LPL 2023. In a previous match between Galle Titans and Dambulla Aura, a snake was found inside the ground due to which the match was halted.
This is the second time, a snake managed to enter the stadium premises, this time at the R Premadasa stadium in Colombo. The snake managed to camouflage itself near the camera wires. The cameraman and his fellow support staff were seen standing at a fair distance from the snake.

Meanwhile, the match between the two teams was an enticing one. Kandy won the toss and opted to bat first in the LPL 2023 fixture. Powered by Mohammad Haris’ 81 at the top, B-Love Kandy scored 178/8 in their 20 overs. Fakhar Zaman and Angelo Mathews scored 22 each. For Jaffna with the ball, Nuwan Thusara took 3/31. Dunith Wellalage and Dilshan Madhushanka took two each.
Jaffna stuttered at the top in the chase with their openers falling early. Shoaib Malik’s unbeaten 55 was not enough to take his team through to victory. David Miller (24 off 16) and skipper Thisara Perera (36 off 20) played valuable cameos that went in vain.
Angelo Mathews took 3/10 for Kandy to turn the match in their favor. Nuwan Pradeep took two wickets as well. Jaffna needed 18 runs off the last over bowled by Dusmantha Chameera who gave just nine runs. The win took Kandy through to the playoffs and also topped the table.
“Credit should go to our three fast bowlers and Angelo Mathews did a great job. When they were batting, the wicket was getting better. We played three fast bowlers, and they have good experience and so we backed them” said Kany skipper Wanindu Hasaranga after they made the playoffs.
