Will Lucknow Super Giants sign Rohit Sharma in the upcoming IPL auction? Reports are suggesting that LSG has already kept INR 50 Crore to sign Rohit in the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjiv Goenka has finally cleared the franchise's intentions on the topic.

During a conversation with Sports Tak, Goenka called these claims 'baseless'. He further mentioned that nobody knows if Rohit is going to come to the auction or not.

Rohit Sharma is currently playing for Mumbai Indians and it remains to be seen if the franchise retains its marquee player in the IPL 2025 mega auctions or not.

Goenka further argued that if a franchise spends half the purse on a single player, there will be nothing left for the remaining ones.

Sanjiv Goenka breaks silence on Rohit Sharma's signing

"Firstly, tell me if Rohit Sharma is coming to the auction or not," Sanjiv Goenka asked Sports Tak journalist Vikrant Gupta.

"Nobody knows if Rohit Sharma is coming to the auction or not. These are all baseless things. It all depends whether Mumbai Indians releases Rohit Sharma or not, or if he decides to enter the auction," Sanjiv Goenka said.

"And if you spend half the purse on a single player, what will you spend on the remaining 22 players? You always plan to have the best captain and the best player," he argued.

Sanjiv Goenka concluded by saying that a team needs to make the best use of the available resources rather than just going for big players in the auction.

"It is not about wanting. It depends on how you make the best use of the available resources," he added.

Rohit Sharma's captaincy tenure with Mumbai Indians

Rohit Sharma served as the captain of Mumbai Indians from 2013-2023. During his tenure, Mumbai Indians won the IPL title five times which is the joint-highest so far alongside Chennai Super Kings.

However, he was removed from the captaincy ahead of the IPL 2024 season as Mumbai appointed Hardik Pandya as the new captain of the team. Under Pandya, Mumbai Indians had one of the worst seasons in IPL history in 2024 as they finished last in the points table.

After IPL 2024, reports suggested that Rohit might join some other team. Rohit has played for two IPL teams so far in his career, Deccan Chargers and Mumbai Indians.

LSG sign Zaheer Khan as mentor

Lucknow Super Giants recently signed former India fast bowler Zaheer Khan as their new mentor. The position had been vacant since Gautam Gambhir's departure from the franchise after IPL 2023 to join Kolkata Knight Riders.

Zaheer Khan has a great working experience in the coaching staff. After playing his last year in IPL in 2017, he joined Mumbai Indians as the director of cricket operations in 2018. In 2022, he was appointed MI's global head of cricket development.
