Deepak Chahar will not return to action when Chennai Super Kings take on Lucknow Super Giants in the 34th game of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024). The crucial game is scheduled to take place on Friday (April 19) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow.

The right-arm pacer played in the first four games of the ongoing season before missing the last two games against Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians. Speaking at the toss before the game against Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad had stated that Deepak Chahar was unavailable due to a niggle.

The pacer was expected to return to action for the game against Mumbai Indians. However, he failed to recover for the crucial game and will now miss the game against Lucknow Super Giants as well.

Speaking to the journalists before the game, Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming confirmed that Deepak Chahar would miss the game as he is currently undergoing rehabilitation. At the same time, the former New Zealand captain also insisted that the injury was a minor one.

"He is doing his rehab well. It’s a minor injury, nothing to worry about," said Fleming.

Speaking further, Fleming also said that Shardul Thakur's performance against Mumbai Indians in the last game allowed the team-management to give Deepak Chahar more time to recover.

"Shardul Thakur bowled well in the last match against Mumbai so we opted to give time to Chahar to recover well," said the head coach.

Deepak Chahar in IPL 2024:

Talking about Deepak Chahar's performance in IPL 2024, the pacer has picked up four wickets in four games. However, he has not really looked at his best and the niggle might have been the reason behind that. In those four games, the Chennai pacer had an economy rate of more than nine. He will be looking for a better performance once he returns to action.

As far as CSK are concerned, they are currently third in the points table with four wins from six games. They have won their last two games and will be eyeing another win against Lucknow. A win in the upcoming game will take them to the second spot in the points table.
