KL Rahul, the captain of the Lucknow Super Giants, recorded the slowest innings by an Indian in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Friday. Playing against the Guwahati Tigers in Lucknow, Rahul scored 68 runs off 61 balls at a strike rate of 111.48.
Rahul’s innings broke the previous record held by Shubman Gill, who scored an unbeaten 70 off 62 balls for the Kolkata Knight Riders against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in Abu Dhabi in 2020.

Interestingly, David Warner also has the same record as Gill, having scored 70* off 62 balls for Sunrisers Hyderabad against Kings XI Punjab in 2019.
Overall, the unwanted record for the slowest IPL innings by strike rate is still held by JP Duminy, who scored 59 runs off 63 balls at a strike rate of 93.65 for the Mumbai Indians against the Punjab Kings (then Kings XI Punjab) in Durban in 2009. Aaron Finch is next on the list, having scored 68 runs off 62 balls at a strike rate of 109.68 for the Sunrisers Hyderabad against Mumbai Indians in Hyderabad in 2014.
