The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper KL Rahul plucked an absolute screamer to dismiss the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Shreyas Iyer in the 54th match of the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Sunday, May 5.

Shreyas Iyer has been doing a great job for Kolkata Knight Riders as a leader and his bowling changes, as well as fielding placements, have been spot-on. While his leadership has been sensational, the same can't be said about his batting as he has been inconsistent and hasn't scored runs at a good strike rate.

In the match against LSG, Shreyas Iyer came to bat at No.6 and he scored just 23 runs off 15 balls, including 3 fours, before being dismissed by the pace bowler Yash Thakur in the final over of the first innings.

On the third ball of the 20th over, Yash Thakur bowled a poor 138.9kph cross-seam short ball on the middle and leg stump. The KKR skipper decided to go inside the line to pull it behind square but ended up gloving it. The ball went towards the wicketkeeper KL Rahul, who dived to his left to take an absolutely sensational one-handed catch.

In the end, Kolkata Knight Riders posted 235 for 6 with the opener Sunil Narine being the top performer with his 39-ball 81. With their total, Kolkata Knight Riders equaled the record of Mumbai Indians for most 200-plus totals in an IPL season. They also became the team to post the highest total on the board against Lucknow Super Giants as well as in Lucknow.

Earlier, speaking after winning the toss, the LSG skipper, who grabbed a stunning catch, said that he is not the best reader of the pitch. KL Rahul said:

"We will bowl first. I'm not the best reader of a wicket, we just like chasing. The good thing is we have been able to adapt really well and quickly to the conditions, there have been quite a few brilliant individual performances as well."

KL Rahul, who had earlier made the 'strike rate is overrated' comment, further spoke about the strike rate in T20s, saying that a lot has changed in the last few years. He said:

"There's been a lot of talk about strike-rate, and T20 cricket has changed a lot in the last couple of years. He was injured in the last game, Yash Thakur comes in for Mayank Yadav."
