Mumbai Indians' Australian big-hitter Tim David accidentally hurt a Delhi Capitals fan with a beaming six towards the stands which struck the fan on his face. It occurred yesterday in the afternoon game of IPL 2024's Super Saturday clash between the Mumbai Indians and the Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley stadium.
Both the teams were fighting for 2 crucial points at the National Capital which was supposed to decide the course of their remaining season. But in the end, it was the home team that cruised past the visitors by 10 runs.
How did Tim David smash the DC fan?
Tim David had arrived to bat in the middle during a crucial phase in the game after the dismissal of number 6 batter Nehal Wadhera. The visitors were at 140/5 in 12.5 overs when David arrived to bat.
The powerful Aussie, known for his power-hitting prowess, was required to play out an innings that could help his team chase down the target of 258 set by DC.
Overall, the MI top-order and middle-order had done well to keep their run-rate in check and over 10 runs an over. But the main problem was the fact that they kept losing wickets at regular intervals.
So Tim David had two jobs in hand. The first was to keep the run rate flowing and the second was to make sure he doesn't lose his wicket.
As soon as he arrived, Tim David started his innings with a flyer. The Australian international made his intentions very clear as he started smacking Delhi's left-arm seamer Khaleel Ahmed, who had previously claimed the important wickets of Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav.
Tim David was on a roll as he smacked back-to-back sixes off Ahmed, who was immediately brought back to the ground following a great start. The six that David scored in the 5th ball off Khaleel's over, was struck very hard and it went sailing over the mid-wicket region.
While the six did look pleasing to the crowd, the ball's eventual landing caused a lot of trouble and pain to a fan, amid the sixes galore in New Delhi. The brutal power of Tim David was embedded all over in that six and the fan, who was hoping to catch the ball with one hand, ended up getting hit on his face.
It wasn't something that the fan was expecting. The ball went to him in a flash and he didn't even have enough time to get away from the ball's landing. After that ugly incident, the fan was seen being taken away by stadium officials for medical attention with a towel visible on the fan's face.

Mukesh Kumar got the fan's revenge
But that didn't stop Tim David from sending furthermore balls to the stands. In the 18th over bowled by Mukesh Kumar, David had smacked him for 16 runs already and MI had required less than 50 runs now from 14 balls. In the 4th ball, DC skipper Rishabh Pant came right behind the stumps after seeing Mukesh being hit for sixes and four.
Pant's strategy eventually worked as Tim David had his front foot cemented in front of the stumps with Mukesh Kumar bowling an accurate wicket-to-wicket line. As a result, David's blistering partnership with Tilak Varma of 70 runs came to an end as the Australian went back to the dugout for 37 off 17 at a 217 strike rate.
