Faf du Plessis returned to form for Royal Challengers Bangalore as he hit 96 runs against Lucknow Super Giants. He was dismissed on the penultimate delivery of the innings as he tried to power the ball out of the ground.
This was his 2nd 80+ score in the league after scoring 88 runs in the first match of the tournament. That innings followed a string of low scores for the RCB captain.
Faf du Plessis Carried The Innings For Royal Challengers Bangalore
RCB after having put into bat first once again had a terrible start as they lost both Anuj Rawat and Virat Kohli in the very first over. They went into the game with an unchanged XI. Rawat got out for 4 runs while Kohli was dismissed for a golden duck.
Maxwell then tried to take the bowlers on as he powered his way to 23 runs but a fantastic catch by Jason Holder at short third man ended his innings. Suyash Prabhudesai too fell for only 10 runs soon after.
Faf and Shahbaz Ahmed combined together to register a 70 partnership which put things back on track for RCB. Shahbaz scored 26 runs but was run out in the slog overs.
Faf started slowly but once he scored his 50 in 40 balls, he took on the bowlers and accelerated at a great pace.
It seemed that he was all set to get to his first-ever IPL century but a brilliant couple of last overs by Avesh Khan and Jason Holder meant that he couldn’t connect a big shot at all.
In the end, RCB managed to put 181 runs on the board as Dinesh Karthik could also manage just 13 runs off 8 balls.

Heartbreak for Faf Du Plessis, he missed out from his maiden IPL century – 96 (64). What a knock by him, started slowly and unleashed later. A superb innings by Faf, scored last 53 runs in just 26 balls. pic.twitter.com/I51cDdTSSR

Faf du Plessis: 96 off 64 balls
Rest of the RCB team: 76 off 57 balls
Clear difference in approach and application there. Still a fighting total of 181/6 on the board

Tragic Faf du Plessis couldn’t get his century. Masterly knock, him, as good as any by any opener in 15 seasons of the IPL. Absorbed the pressure of early wickets, dropped anchor and batted with gr8 application almost till the end to take RCB to a competitive score
