Mahi Bhai (MS Dhoni) Has Made Me The Powerplay Bowler: Deepak Chahar

Chennai Super Kings pace-bowling spearhead Deepak Chahar has attributed his success in the IPL to his skipper and idol MS Dhoni.
Deepak Chahar has been phenomenal in the IPL ever since he started playing for the Chennai Super Kings in 2018.
Since then, Chahar has become the prime wrecker-in-chief for his team, especially during the powerplay.
The right-hander, in a recent interview with Times of India, revealed that it was his long-cherished dream of play under the leadership of ‘Mahi bhai’ MS Dhoni.
Chahar added that Dhoni has always backed him besides teaching him how to take up the responsibility.
“It was a long-cherished dream of mine to play under Mahi bhai. I have learnt a lot under his captaincy. I have taken my game to another level under his guidance. He has always backed me. He taught me how to take responsibility. There is no one in my team (CSK) who bowls three overs in the powerplay. I do that. That’s because of Mahi bhai. Bowling the first over for a team is not an easy job. With time, I have improved and learnt how to control the flow of runs, especially in T20s,” Deepak Chahar told TimesofIndia.com.
The right-arm swing consistently chipped in with wickets during the first six over and on a couple of occasions- against Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders-he proceeded to run through their respective top-order to claim four wickets on both occasions and set up an eventual win for his team.
But, again, Deepak Chahar attributes his success to the confidence that MS Dhoni has shown in his abilities.
”Mahi bhai has made me a powerplay bowler. He always says ‘you are my powerplay bowler’. He, most of the time, gives me the first over of the match. I have been scolded by him a lot (laughs), but I know those talks and that guidance has benefitted me a lot as well and helped me grow as a bowler. He (Dhoni) knows his players well and he uses them wisely. He knows who is good at the death, who is good in the middle overs,” said Chahar.
