Former Team India skipper Rohit Sharma’s reaction during the post-match celebration in Vizag grabbed attention after the series-clinching win over South Africa. While the Indian team cut a cake following the nine-wicket victory, Rohit refused to take a bite, leaving fans amused to see the Indian captain avoid it.
Rohit faced heavy criticism earlier when images of him appearing overweight circulated online, raising concerns about his fitness. However, the opener silenced critics with his transition ahead of the comeback series in Australia. The visible change in his fitness even drew comparisons to veteran batter Virat Kohli.
Rohit Sharma Shines with Dominant Performances Against Australia and South Africa
Rohit Sharma returned to international cricket during the Australia tour. He scored a century and a half-century in the series, where India lost 1-2. The right-handed batter finished as the leading run-getter and secured the Player of the Series award.
He scored 73 off 97 in Adelaide and became the first Indian to surpass 1,000 ODI runs on Australian soil. He then followed up with an unbeaten 121 in Sydney to guide India to a nine-wicket win. Sharma carried that form into the series against South Africa.
The opener scored two half-centuries in three ODIs and looked even fitter than he did in Australia. He hit a half-century in the opening ODI in Ranchi and smashed 75 off 73 in the third ODI in Visakhapatnam, helping India seal the series.

Rohit Sharma’s love for food is no secret, but the senior batter is now determined to stay disciplined about his fitness. After India sealed the series in Vizag, Virat Kohli was asked to cut the cake during a celebration at the team hotel.
Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal were invited together, but Kohli stepped aside and encouraged the youngster to take the spotlight. Jaiswal then offered Kohli a piece of cake.
As soon as Jaiswal offered Rohit a slice, the captain refused with a smile, saying, “Main phir se mota ho jaunga (I’ll become fat again).” His light-hearted response left the whole room laughing, and the video quickly went viral on social media.
After India’s win in Vizag, the team was celebrating at the hotel by cutting a victory cake. When Jaiswal went to feed the cake to Rohit Sharma, Rohit said, "nahi bhai, me Mota ho jauga vapas"😭❤️

Rohit Sharma Undergoes Major Fitness Transformation Ahead of Key Assignments
During his break from cricket, Rohit Sharma spent several weeks training under former India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar. He did heavy workouts, cross-fit, and cardio almost every day. The batter also changed his eating habits and even gave up his favourite snacks.
Rohit lost around 10–11 kilos in about three months. When he returned to international cricket, fans immediately noticed his leaner look on the field. His improved fitness is seen as a serious step toward staying strong for the next few years.
Rohit wants to keep himself ready for future tournaments, including the 2027 World Cup. He has asked the Mumbai Cricket Association to let him play in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy knockouts. He is also expected to feature in the Vijay Hazare Trophy to stay match fit.
