The man who planned the threatening kidnap of former Australian spinner Stuart Macgill has been granted bail on consideration of two factors by the Supreme Court on Thursday. In April month, Macgill had made allegations that he was kidnapped into a car, taken to an unidentified location, and threatened for an hour with a gun. He was dumped into Sydney’s west after having been assaulted.
The accused was a 42-year-old named Son Minh Nguyen and he was arrested the next month being charged offenses accordingly of using a gel blaster gun and nunchucks and also for directing criminal activities. Nguyen’s barrister had initiated the delay of securing a trial due to the current Covid circumstances to the court justice.

Justice Julia Lonergan had accepted the bail after considering two factors despite stating the argument from the defense counsel Hament Dhanji wasn’t strong enough. One of the factors was the delay in securing the trial is it could lead up to two years in the current pandemic situation. The second reason was the crown’s case not being strong enough to reject the bail.
“Knowingly (to) direct activities of a criminal group can attract a maximum period of imprisonment of 15 years and take and detain in company … can attract a maximum period of imprisonment of 25 years,” Justice of the Supreme Court Julia Lonergan said after justifying the bail.
“These are very serious charges.”Justice Julia Lonergan added
Nguyen who is out on a bail must report to the police daily and can go out of the house only for specific reasons. He will also be paying a security deposit of $4,30,000 with the passport returned to the police. He will next report to the court on August 26 for a hearing while Stuart Macgill will find it hard at the moment to accept the bail.
Stuart Macgill played 44 tests and 3 ODI for the Australian side from the period of 1998 to 2008 and the leggie had been left in the shadows of Shane Warne.
