Ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup, former Team India batter Manoj Tiwary raised concerns about the dressing room of the India National Cricket Team, which was in the news during the team's tour of the United Kingdom, mostly for the wrong reasons.
Manoj Tiwary prescribed if Team India wants to do well in the upcoming World Cup, then the team management needs to address the dressing room atmosphere first. From the outside, Tiwary sensed that there was something wrong in the Indian cricket dressing room with Gautam Gambhir as the head coach.
India is currently doing well under the coaching of VVS Laxman
India has begun the ongoing Zimbabwe T20I series on a good note, winning the first of the three-match T20I series with a clinical win. The win was much-needed for the team as they surrendered against Ireland and England in back-to-back series.
Currently, VVS Laxman is with the senior cricket team as the stand-in head coach, along with his support staff from the national cricket academy. Manoj Tiwary highlighted that, despite the difference in rankings between Ireland, England, and Zimbabwe, there is visible improvement in the players’ performance under the guidance of Gautam Gambhir and now, under the guidance of Laxman.
Manoj Tiwary issues a massive warning to the Indian cricket team
In a sense of urgency, Manoj Tiwary stated that he saw a lot of differences in the dressing room that need to be addressed ahead of the ODI World Cup. The possible difference in the dressing room might be because of an unstable playing combination.
Alongside the team’s poor results against Ireland and England, reports and videos claiming Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were not on the same page with the head coach Gautam Gambhir emerged as an alarming situation for the team.
“I see a lot of differences in the dressing room which need to be sorted out before the World Cup. And the playing XI, the combination needs to be bang on if you want to do well in the 2027 World Cup in South Africa. Because a lot of stories are coming out that the two, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, obviously we have seen having a chat with the head coach,” Manoj Tiwary said via a PTI video.
“But with Virat's thing, we have not seen many videos as such. And the rumors are coming that they are not on talking terms within the team. I think the atmosphere within the team needs to be very good, which is not the case at this moment,” he added.
Manoj Tiwary asks BCCI to immediately take action to resolve the dressing room disturbance
Manoj Tiwary believed that those subpar outcomes during the UK tour might be because of the differences within the team. If it continues, then the team’s chances to do well in the 2027 World Cup could be decreased.
“And the results are there to be seen. The results are a reflection of how the dressing room is right now at the moment,” the former India cricketer added.
