The future of cricket in Australia is approaching a new juncture because of the nation's highest cricket governing body's proposal for the privatization of its own franchise league, the Big Bash League (BBL). While some of the franchisees have some reservations, most of the owners of the BBL teams have nodded for market exploration.
Experienced Australian all-rounder was shocked to know that Cricket Victoria plans to merge their two franchises— Melbourne Stars and Melbourne Renegades. Since the inception of the league, these two teams from Melbourne have positioned themselves as rivals.
Marcus Stoinis opines on the privatization of the BBL
Fans and cricketers thoroughly enjoyed the rivalry between the two Melbourne teams. After the privatization, the league will move in a new direction, maybe without a Melbourne derby in the near future. Marcus Stoinis is amongst the Australian top talents who welcome the privatization, but he found it hard to swallow the fact that the Melbourne derby in the Big Bash League is about to be diluted.
Marcus Stoinis is a legend of the Melbourne Stars. The batting all-rounder had played for the franchise from the 2013-14 season to the previous edition of the league. So, he knows, and he feels the emotions around the league and a few particular matches, which makes it more special among the local fans.

With the bat, the middle-order batter has scored 3250 runs in 116 innings for a strike rate of 133.53 and an average of 34.21. With the ball, the all-rounder has taken 59 wickets in 69 innings for an economy rate of 8.43.
"I mean, yeah, it's interesting times. It was a shock to a lot of people, not so much the intentions to go private. I think that's obviously been well documented by a lot of people and players," Stoinis told via Code Sports.
"Well, myself, I'm very pro-privatisation. I think it's heading that way in general, and I'd like the Big Bash to keep up with that and be the second-biggest comp in the world, which I think would require something like privatisation. But then in terms of the Melbourne side of things, the Victorian side of things, I think, look, it's hard," he added.

While he supports the privatization proposal, the cricket feels a bit emotional at the thought of having spent so many years with the BBL team, where some of the greats of the game have also left their mark. Marcus Stoinis has talked about the legacy, the hard work, and all of the involvement throughout the years by countless people.
"I played at the BBL team Melbourne Stars for, I don't know, it could almost be 15 years. And I see things about, oh, they haven't won anything, so there's no big deal in moving it on. But for players and people who are involved with the club for such a long time, we don't really see it like that," Stoinis further mentioned.
"So, yeah, there's a lot of history. Some great players have played for them. There's Shane Warne, Kevin Peterson, Luke Wright, and some Lasith Malinga. I understand that things move on and that sort of stuff. But, yeah, it's a club, for me, out of being an Australian cricketer, you want to play for Australia."
