Mark Wood has once again shown he is irreplaceable for England. One of the fastest bowlers in the world right now, the right-arm pacer has further enhanced his reputation with his impressive performance in the ongoing Ashes series between England and Australia.

After warming the bench in the first two Tests, Mark Wood was earned a recall in the third Test and has not looked back since then. England lost the first two Tests in Mark Wood’s absence and his inclusion made an instant impact as the tearaway pacer helped them win the third Test at Edgbaston.

In his very first innings of the ongoing series, the England star picked up five wickets and followed it up with two more in the second innings. He constantly troubled the Australian batsmen with his pace and bounce and looked unplayable at times. He picked up four wickets in the drawn fourth Test and has picked up two wickets in the first innings of the ongoing fifth Test at The Oval.

Mark Wood to miss The Hundred:

With Mark Wood in stunning form at the moment and the ICC World Cup 2023 not very far ahead, the English team management has taken a big call regarding the pacer. The fast bowler is all set to sit out the Hundred as England look to protect him for the marquee event. With Jofra Archer already sidelined with an elbow injury, England would be desperate to ensure that Mark Wood remains fit for the tournament.

The decision, however, will be a big blow for the Hundred which has already lost several big names ahead of the third edition. Mark Wood’s absence will also be a big blow for London Spirit who have already lost Olly Stone to a hamstring injury this week. Recently, Cricket Australia also withdrew Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Marsh from the competition.
