Team India skipper Rohit Sharma shared his thoughts on out-of-favor batters Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara after the third Test match against Australia in the BGT 2024-25 series. Rohit Sharma stated that Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara can make a comeback for India with their performances.
Ravichandran Ashwin announced his unexpected retirement after the third Test against Australia at the Gabba. By the Way, Ajinkya Rahane Hasn't Retired Yet - Rohit Sharma
During the post-match press conference, Rohit Sharma was asked about Ashwin, Pujara, and Rahane's involvement with the Indian cricket team. Rohit clarified that only Ashwin had officially announced his retirement from international cricket, while Rahane and Pujara have not retired.
"Bilkul. Itna experience hai unke paas. Itne matches unhone jitaaye hain toh kahin na kahin, abhi aapko kisi left ya right mein dekhna hai toh yeh log nahin rahenge. By the way Ajinkya Rahane retire nahin hua hai. Aap mere ko marwaaoge yaar. Pujara bhi retirement announce nahin kiya hai yaar," Rohit told reporters.
(Obviously. He has so much experience and played and won several matches. If you want to look around and don't find those people, it will be odd. By the way, Ajinkya Rahane hasn't retired yet, nor is Pujara.)
Cheteshwar Pujara Is Very Secretive - Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma said that Pujara wants to stay in Rajkot, and they meet occasionally on the cricket field. Regarding Ashwin, Rohit said that they would see him taking the expert's role in the next 1-2 years. He emphasized that it would feel strange if they were not around him on the field.
“We meet a lot in Mumbai. Pujara is very secretive, he stays in hiding in Rajkot. We don’t meet often but we do meet sometimes on the cricket field. But Ash too, I am sure he will be with you guys in the next 1-2 years. So we will keep meeting him," Rohit said.
"No, no, absolutely [I will miss them around]. Look, he has so much experience, he has won so many matches for India. So, if you want to look to your left or right and these guys are not there..."

Third Test Between India and Australia Ended in a Draw at the Gabba
