Matthew Mott appointed assistant coach of Sydney Sixers after being sacked as England's head coach

Former England's white-ball head coach Matthew Mott is set to begin his new tenure with Big Bash League (BBL) team Sydney Sixers. Mott has been appointed the assistant coach of Sydney Sixers.
Mott was recently sacked as England's white-ball head coach after the team lost the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2024 to eventual champions India. Under Mott, England were disappointing in the previous ICC tournament as well in which they failed to qualify for the semi-final of the ODI World Cup 2023.
However, England have some fond memories under Matthew Mott as well. They won the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia during his tenure and were the ODI World Cup champions and T20 World Cup champions during that time. However, the ODI World Cup 2023 proved to be the start of the downfall in English white-ball cricket under Mott.

Matthew Mott appointed assistant coach of Sydney Sixers
Matthew Mott has signed a three-year deal with Sydney Sixers as assistant coach. He will join Greg Shipperd, who is the head coach of Sydney Sixers. Mott will replace Cameron White, who has left the Sixers to join Melbourne Renegades as the head coach.
After his appointment, Mott expressed his delight to rejoin Sydney Sixers. He also mentioned that he has some great memories in Sydney where he started his career. Mott was also excited to work as an assistant to Greg Shipperd.
"I'm delighted to join back up with the Sydney Sixers. Having started my coaching journey in Sydney many years ago, it's a place that evokes both great memories and a comforting sense of familiarity, which I'm looking forward to," Mott stated.
"The idea of being an assistant to Greg Shipperd, who I have a tremendous amount of respect for, really appealed to me," he added.
Rachel Haynes speaks on Matthew Mott's appointment
In Sydney Sixers, he will be reunited with former Australia vice-captain Rachel Haynes, who is currently the general manager of Sydney Sixers. Haynes expressed her happiness for Matthew Mott's arrival in Sydney Sixers and stated that the club is in safe hands.
"We couldn't be more pleased to have Motty committed for the next three years with the club," Haynes, Sixers' general manager, said."When the opportunity arises to bring a coach of Motty's calibre into your ranks, it's a no-brainer. We know what a fantastic resource he will be for our playing group."

Matthew Mott's excellent coaching record
Matthew Mott began his coaching career with New South Wales in 2007. He also had a successful stint as the head coach Australia women's team. During his tenure, Australia endured a golden era in women's cricket which is still going on smoothly.
During this tenure, Australia won the ICC Women's ODI World Cup in 2022 and clinched the ICC Women's T20 World Cup in 2018 and 2020. Australian team produced some of the best-ever women's cricketers in the history of the game during this period.
